The Independence Day Celebrations Organizing Committee announced the slogan of the 65th Independence Anniversary 2020 which is (I Love You Sudan).
The slogan is a quote from one of the poems by one of the unknown Sudanese poets, but it is full of noble meaning of loving the homeland and expresses the strength of the people of Sudan.
On the first day of each year celebrations pavilions are set up and most public and private institutions’ offices are decorate besides the fluttering flags over the buildings.
As we celebrate the 65th anniversary of independence we recall the past events and the struggle of our elites till Sudan became an independent state.
The question that poses itself is what did we benefit from independence during the past 65 years?
Every year we recognize that we are dropping back while other nations are developing.
We believe that the real independence could be felt when our politicians recover and overstep their differences for the sake of Sudan and its people.
But, unfortunately our politicians are the main reason for the crises surrounding the country.
During the last 65years our economy is tremendously declining despite the potentials of the country including oil production.
We lost the oil revenues due to the miscalculations after the signature of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), as the most oilfields became part of South Sudan State.
We did not utilize the oil revenues in reviving the agricultural projects which represent the backbone of our economy, rather the ousted regime wasted the wealth in unproductive projects.
Let us hope, while celebrating the independence day that our politicians rise above all agonies and work together in harmony, especially after the signature of the peace agreement with the armed struggle movements.
Let us all realize the slogan(I Love You Sudan) towards a homeland that accommodates all.
