SUDAN’S GOVERNMENT WELCOMES UN RESOLUTIONS
Sudanese transitional government has welcomed, recent decision taken by member of the United Nations Security Council to establish a new political mission to Sudan and another resolution to extend the mandate of UNAMID till the end of December.
In a meeting of members of Defense and Security Council, Sunday, chaired by the head of the Sovereign Council, General Abdulfatah Al Burhan, the members welcome the UN decision.
Resolution No. 2524 (2020) establishes of a transitional mission to provide technical support to the Government of the transitional period and Resolution No. 2525 (2020) extens the mission of UNAMID till December 31, 2020.
Sudanese Prime Minister, Abdallah Hamdok, present an official request to the UN Security Council on February, 27, seeking for the establishment of a political mission to help the transitional government in peace building and other developmental projects.
The Security and Defense Council stressed that these decisions will contribute to supporting the stability of the transitional period and the return of Sudan to the international community, with the emphasis in the two resolutions on preserving full national rights.
The Security and Defense Council expressed some reservations about the two decisions and stressed the continuation of joint work with the United Nations, the International Security Council, the African Union, friends and partners to reach solutions consistent with what was stated in Sudan’s letter of request and rights to obtain the required technical support and maintain Sudan’s security and sovereignty.
