The USA Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has confirmed that his country’s support for Sudan and the Sudanese transitional government will continue for leading to democracy and peace.
Pompeo stated that USA are making progress in helping Sudan convert to a more democratic and peaceful lifestyle.
He recalled in press conference that his country’s participation in the Sudan Partnership Conference, which was hosted by Germany and the European Union last month, where he indicated that his country had contributed about 20% of the total commitment pledged.
He said that his country had announced on June 25 that it would provide 356.2 million dollars to support the democratic transition in Sudan, including more than 85 million dollars in development and assistance in fighting Coronavirus, COVID-19.
The participation of the United States of America in the Berlin conference, and its presentation of the largest package of financial obligations by one country, raised the expectations index on the proximity of removing the name of Sudan from the list of countries that sponsor terrorism, which means that Sudan benefits from all investment opportunities, aid, and debt relief; which were the issues on which the Berlin Conference participants focused.
