It is now almost 11 months since the transitional-military led government sworn in power as the first post-AlBashir government.
Despite the fact that it did of things but people on the grass-root level still think that the government failed to address the cause roots of the major problems – among which and not limited to – improving the living condition of citizens who suffer severe economic situation and acute shortages of basic services.
It is true that peace is one of the top priorities of the government, but the continuous delay of peace agreement has negatively affected on other key issues like the nomination of states’ governors; as still the 18 states across the Sudan still ruled by military governors a matter that violates the constitutional, as people in these states up to date didn’t see the change following the inspirational revolution of December which change the face of Sudan once and forever.
The political and constitutional vacuum in the states is one of the challenges facing the government before next August which marks the first anniversary of formation transitional government, therefore the delay of nomination states governors created so many security problems and tribal conflict particularly in states which witness fragile security situation.
It is a good omen that Prime Minister, Dr. Abdalla Hamdok tends to nominate states governors of 13 states and delay the other five till both transitional government and Sudanese Revolutionary Front (RSF)reach lasting peace. This courage step will restore the popularity of PM after start losing some of it due to differences between government components.
For sure way of governors is not easy but it is full of obstacles because of long absence as the biggest stumble stone is that supporters of ousted regime were working hard to destabilize the situation, and they did their best to abort any forms of change, in some states like West Kordufan, Red Sea, White Nile as it need specific mechanism because they have complicated political situation. The priority of states governors are the following :-
- To remove empowerment made by the ousted regime which has lasted over 30 years and this will take time but must not be all times.
- The other challenge to spread security to the extent that people of the State convinced that there is a real change and any person feels safe and secure.
- The social fabric has witnessed infiltration by the regime through weak native administration and this needs more cautious and vigilant.
- The preparations for rainy season as agriculture is the backbone of each and every economic activity.
- How to implement the values and objectives of the revolution to the extent that people leave old ideas of racism and tribalism which hit the social fabric in many of the State.
If they manage to fulfill the above mentioned obligation they can pave the way towards security and stability; the governors should know for certain that they can unite their states regardless race, religion ethnicity or tear them apart whatever the option will take but at the end of the day people who made the revolution will not keep silence if follies committed.
