The Sudanese Armed Forces announced that it appointed in May 2020 a commissioner (officer) for the Commander in Chief and for the Armed Forces who is specializing in informatics crimes to raise legal procedure and to follow up complaints within a team of legal officers of the Military Judiciary and under the supervision of the Military Public Prosecutor.
In a press release issued Saturday, the Armed Forces explained that the task of this committee is to monitor all insults against the Armed Forces with all its components and to take the necessary legal measures in this regard.
The release explained that the committee has monitored a number of violations and insults against the Armed Forces and has started leveling suits to the competent prosecution in accordance with the principle of the rule of law, the Criminal Law, the crimes against the state, the Law of the Press and Publications and informatics Crimes, which was amended recently to include deterrent penalties.
According to the press release, legal measures were taken by the committee against a number of activists, media elements and others inside and outside Sudan, adding that the details of the committee’s work will be regularly exposed to the public.
The Armed Forces said that it had taken this step after the systematic insults and accusations that exceeded the limit of patience, indicating that these insults are part of a plot targeting the nation’s army and security system
Sudanese Journalists Network (SJN) comment on the statement of the military by saying that the military step considering as indicator for lacking freedom of expression and threatening for people of opinion, aading that the legal procedures which based on undemocratic law that signed during outset regime.
SJN stated in press statement that it was beteer to review the law that lacking freedom of press and expression of people, they also demanded to change the mind that govern and manage the military institutions.
SJN mentioned that the state of law build by the democratic law and national institutions that work under Excutive authority and accepting another opinion that concern all state’s institution.
The SJN confirmed following up law procedures for statement and will work with all bodies that aiming to take forward procedures and publish it to public, SJN went further and said they will form political and legal corporation to defence about expression freedom and what procedures taken against anyone.
The Sudanese Journalist, Mohamed Al_agraa, comment to Khartoum Today that any institution has rights to take any legal procedures against any person who mistaken legally, but what defect the announcement of the military has meaning of threatening at the time need political tactic that could narrow the gap between Army and people after the massacre that happen in front of the Army headquarters before a year.
Surely the announcement were resulted negatively because it didn’t considered the senestive of the people on this issue that’s why we saw the campaign “for not getting the Army anger”.
Al-agraa considered that the freedom of expression is rights that Sudanese people could brought it by thier struggle, any movement for lacking this rights will never success.
The Army could siege of the official journalist forum that afraid of facing the army institution.
