The 74th Independence Day of India was celebrated by the Embassy of India with grandeur, gaiety, fervor and enthusiasm at the Embassy Residence on 15th August, 2020. Due to spread of COVID-19 pandemic and extant guidelines to follow preventive measures, the event was organized on a small scale. There was live streaming of the prgramme through the Embassy Facebook page for Indian nationals and friends of India to follow from their homes/work places. The celebrations commenced at 9 am with the unfurling of the Indian flag by Ambassador Ravindra Prasad Jaiswal. On this occasion, Ambassador, in his remarks to the Indian community in Sudan, highlighted the exemplary manner in which India has managed the COVID-19 crisis and emphasized the efforts of getting the stranded Indians back to the country. He also emphasized the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan (Self-Reliant India Mission) and called upon the Indian community to play their part for its success. He appreciated Government and people of Sudan for efficiently managing COVID-19 crisis and extended sincere thanks to the Sudanese Government for facilitating evacuation of hundreds of Indian nationals stranded in Sudan in June and July through special flights. He also expressed happiness over the return of thousands of Sudanese nationals from India to Sudan through special flights, who were stranded in different cities of India due to cancellation of regular flights following spread of COVID -19. In his address, he recalled wholehearted support by the Government of India for the smooth evacuation of Sudanese nationals from India to Sudan.
On this occasion, other events like Patriotic Essay Competition, Singing of Patriotic Songs, Online Quiz competition etc. were organized online by the Embassy.
