A new session of the court of the indicted figures of 1989 coup was held today , Tuesday 3rd October at the buildings of the Criminal Evidence in the presence of the Attorney General, Taj Al-Sir Al-Hibir, who presented the accusation the bill of indictment.
The defence team rejected the bill of indictment subjecting their objection that the Attorney General, Taj Al-Sir Al-Hibir is a litigant considering that he had submitted a report on the coup before assuming his position as Attorney General. Accordingly part of the defence lawyers pulled out from the court.
The head of the defence team. Mohamed Al-Hassan Al-Amin said that they refused to continue the session because they raised number of reservations on the Prosecutor-General.
“Our representatives of the indicted figures refused to say anything about the investigation stage before the committee formed by the Attorney General as they claim that the prosecutor general is also a complainant.
Meanwhile, number of the defence team criticized the court’s procedures, describing it as rash, especially that the court files death penalty charges.
The chief of the court, EsamAddeen Ibrahim continued the session and the Attorney General read his sermon, where the president of the court objected to some of its points directing focusing only on the consequences of 1989 coup without jumping to any other issue.
The session was adjourned to resume on 20th October.
