The Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations , Jean-Pierre Lacroix, said on Monday through video conference in Alfashir that UN-AU will continue supporting Sudanese transitional government welcoming delisting Sudan from states sponsor terrorism . La Croix added UNAMID mandate in Sudan will expire by 2020 no extension before returning to UNSC.
“ joining missions have been working together for a number of years focusing on peace , stability and well-being are very important for our two organizations “ said Lacroix
On his part Commissioner of the African Union Peace and Security Commission, Ismail Chergui confirmed that they are looking forward for a better situation as a citizen in Darfur the cause root of the conflict in the region and we are confident that Sudanese people have a high level of awareness. In regard to UNAMID performance over the past ten years he said that they have not achieve the mission 100% but they did many good things adding that when UNAMID leave Sudan they will continue sharing with their effort to the country. “Sudan is country of full sovereignty has the right to sign any form of agreement, I have no comment regarding normalization relations with Israel” concluded Chergui.
Emphasizing their eagerness to confirm the promises made by the donor countries at the Friends of Sudan Conference held in the German capital Berlin in sending aid and implementing the projects they promised.
He pointed out that the African Union and international partners stand with the Sudanese people, and work to facilitate dialogue to find ways to raise the national economy.
He pointed out that the new UN mission “UNITAMS” is working according to the specific mandate presented by the Sudanese government to monitor the implementation of the peace agreement, the ceasefire, and the merger and demobilization process, in addition to supporting the political process and strengthening the rule of law.
