World Bank Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa, Hafez Ghanem will arrive in Sudan on Sunday, May 23, 2021 for a 2-day visit. This will be Mr. Ghanem’s first visit to Khartoum since Sudan has cleared its arrears to the International Development Association (IDA), enabling its full re-engagement with the World Bank Group after nearly three decades, and paving the way for the country to access nearly $2 billion in IDA grants for poverty reduction and sustainable economic recovery.
Mr. Ghanem will meet with Prime Minister, Dr. Abdalla Hamdok, Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman al-Burhan, the Minister of Finance, Dr. Gibril Ibrahim, and the Governor of Central Bank, Mohamed El Fatih Zein-Alabdien. He also plans to meet with members of the private sector, civil society organizations, development partners and beneficiaries of the World Bank supported Sudan Family Support Program (Thamarat).
During his visit, Mr. Ghanem will discuss Sudan’s plans for economic revival, the creation of job opportunities and inclusive development.
