Sudanese Ministry of Finance has sign an agreement, Monday, with the United Nations World Food Program or WFP, aimed at buy and import 200tons of Wheat for the use of the government.
Sudanese Finance Minister, Ibrahim Al Badawi, signed on behalf of the government, while Hamid Nuru, the country director of the WFP, signed on behalf of the organization.
Speaking to the the press shortly after the signing ceremony, Minister Al Badawi said Sudan is now open for more cooperation with many entities including UN organizations.
The Minister appreciated the support of the WFP to thousands of internally displaced persons or IDPs, in many affected areas during the past period. He also applauds the role played by the organization to fight Covid-19 pandemic.
On his part, WFP director said that Sudanese government shall pay for the imported food in local currency, adding, his organization shall use the money to give to the local population so they are able to buy other food commodities from their local market.
