A former Chairman of the National Congress Party (NCP), Ahmed Mohamed Haroun, is being treated after testing positive for Coronavirus in prison in Khartoum North. His daughter Aliaa Ahmed Haroun said her father had tested positive after two previous negative results. She confirmed that he is in isolation at a Khartoum hospital.
Ahmed Haroun, 56, experienced symptoms of Covid-19 in Kober Prison, where NCP leaders are detained, including ousted President Omer al Bashir.
Ahamed Haroun was one of co-defendant of Al Bashir in . He had been State Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Governor of South Kordofan and later, of North Kordufan till revolution of December 2018 . In 2008, when he was State Interior Minister, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Haroun on 20 counts of crimes against humanity and war crimes in Darfur.
