The Sudan’s popular revolution (Dec. ’18 – Apr.’19) is encountering grave difficulties been continually produced by the ‘deep state’ which is working hard to hinder the march towards restoring democracy to the country following three decades of military dictatorship fleshed by militant Muslim Brothers (the Islamic movement).
The greatest danger to the revolution emanates from the fact that the elements of the defunct regime maintained their posts in the regular forces, namely – the army, the security and the police. The country has witnessed many incidents of bloody tribal conflicts in the west and the east. Lieutenant General M. H. Himaidti on May 13 disclosed that “hidden hands” are responsible of these violent clashes between different ethnic groups.” According to him the enemies of the revolution have triggered the clashes so as to distract the central transitional government from accomplishing its mandate.
It is obvious that the deep state is behind the sedition. The elements of the deep sate try to seduce the tribes in different places in the country into disputes and tensions to ignite clashes so that the Rapid Intervention Forces will pull out of the capital Khartoum and scatter in different parts of the country so that the Islamic movement could avail the opportunity to overthrow the civil transitional government and restore power by force. The plan also depends on the support of the Islamic movement’s elements in the armed forces and the security.
So the greatest challenge facing the future of the revolution lies in the remaining of these military institutions intact. This means that without the re-structuring of these regular forces, and getting rid of e Al-Beshir’s adherents therein, the transitional government – and the revolution – will be in real danger.
It is regrettable that one armed side in these communities kill the other (unarmed one) in a cold blood whereas the regular forces do not intervene in the mean time. It is hard breaking that complete families have been killed in Kadugli (South Kordofan state) and elsewhere, and no forces are there to stop the killing in time!
It is clear that the revolution which has been brought by the civil non-violent resistance with great sacrifices will be facing many conspiracies unless the regular forces are restructured. So, it is high time that the people of Sudan are to stand up strongly for a new phase of solidarity and resistance to protect the revolution against these conspirators. I think the will of the people and the great awareness about any clandestine plans are the strongest (peaceful) weapons against the enemies of the revolution.
Adding to this, the UN mission being prepared to come to Sudan under chapter six of the UN charter is to take into consideration that they are not only to support peace building – and the related processes – but also to help protect the revolution against the elements of deposed dictator.
