The Minister of Foreign Affairs Maryam Al-Sadig, expressed the Sudan’s desire to revitalize bilateral relations with Ghana in the political, economic and security fields, noting that Sudan of the revolution is working for partnership in development, investment and trade exchange.
During her meeting today with Ghanaian President Nana Akufo Addo, in the capital Accra, she indicated that Ghana is one of the important countries for Sudan, asserting keenness for the activation of the Sudan’s regional relations and cooperation, and openness for entering into special strategic partnerships with Ghana, the head of the Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS) and the host of the General Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area of the African Union.
Dr. Maryam emphasized the Sudan’s position for finding a peaceful solution to the dispute over the GERD and the borders with neighboring Ethiopia, adding that Sudan is keen on the stability of the region with its reference to the international law and common treaties.
She pointed to the Sudan adoption to the African solutions to African problems with a greater role for the international community, stressing that the second filling and operation of the dam, without a legal agreement and ensuring continuity, represents a real danger to Sudan, calling on Ghana to support Sudan’s just and moderate position.
On his part, the Ghanaian President welcomed the visit of Foreign Minister Maryam Al-Sadig, commending the role played by the late Sadig al-Mahdi in democracy and moderation, expressing proudness with the Sudan’s revolution as an inspiration to Africa.
He indicated that the transitional government is moving in the right direction and has been able to overcome many difficulties, affirming commitment to support the democratic transition in Sudan, giving directives for the activation of the agreements signed between the two countries, and to hold meetings of the Ministerial Committee and the Political Consultation Committee between the two countries.
