The acting Attorney General, Khalifa Ahmed Khalifa, Monday issued a decision on formation of a committee to investigate in the incidents and violations in the processions that took place since October 25, 2021.
The decision specified the tasks and jurisdiction of the committee in investigating the facts and circumstances of the events and violations that occurred on and after October 25, 2021, which led to the killing and injury of a number of citizens, and any facts related to these incidents
The tasks and jurisdiction of the committee also included investigating in the incidents and violations during the processions, counting losses in private and public property, arresting the accused, registering criminal reports against them, bringing them to trial and interrogating everyone involved in the events.
The decision gave the committee the jurisdiction of the Public Prosecution included in the Public Prosecution Act for the year 2017 and the Criminal Procedures Law for the year 1991, including bringing the accused persons to trial and representing the prosecution.
According to the decision, the Senior Prosecutor, Al-Taher Abdul-Rahman Mohamed is to head the committee, and the membership of eight members of the Public Prosecution at different grades.
The decision authorized the committee to carry out its work after taking the oath before the acting Attorney General and to seek the assistance from whoever it sees suitable.
The decision indicated that the committee’s decisions are to be appealed to the attorney general or any department formed by the Attorney General within a period not exceeding one week, and that the committee shall submit a periodical report every two weeks since the date of its start to work.
