Sudanese are known in the Arab World and the African region as generous people and they welcome everyone in their midst. One of those moments can be proved during the Holy Month of Ramadan, where thousands of Muslims go on fasting for thirty days.
In Sudan, families, friends, colleagues and all are gather during the fasting period, share drinks and food together, mostly by the road sites, where people exchange joy of the Ramadan in this mixed religion and cultural way.
Prior to the beginning of that holy month, families are noticed crowding the markets to shop for the month. As you move around Sudanese neighborhoods, you will defiantly hear the smell of handmade Sudanese drinks, famously known as Hilu Mur.
Unfortunately, this annual ritual practices, this time around, has been spoiled by the spread of Covid-19 pandemic across the World. Sudan is not an exception in this. This religion and ritual practices will not be able to happened, as before, due to the spread of covid-19, which is threatening humanity around the World.
Saudi’s authorities, recently announced that there will be no night prayer in groups, as a precautionary measure to avoid gatherings in Mekka. So, this time around, there will be no Taraweh’s Prayer in Mekka.
As Sudanese, we will be lacking exchange family visits that carry beautiful Ramadan blessings and sharing experience.
We know how this month comes with a lot of blessings along with its traditions and rituals. This is a global pandemic which has killed thousands of people.
Even though, authorities have issued a directive to ban all forms of social gatherings, indulging Mosques and Churches for the period of 21 days. It has been observed that citizen still going out looking for bread, queuing for cooking gas.
We should all take this pandemic seriously, wash our hands frequently as we are staying home to begin our Holy Month of Ramdan.
