According to news articles the Security and Defence Council chaired by 1st lt. Gen. Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan has declared in his meeting of Friday evening at the republican Palace the State of Emergency all over the country for three months.
The decision came after the Council assessed the situation following the unprecedented floods that resulted to damages and claiming lives of about 100 persons.
About half a million of Sudanese were affected and more than 100 thousand houses were totally or partially collapsed.
Observes expected the government to declare the State of Emergency since early days of August as it was obvious that the floods and rains this year are unprecedented according to the daily reports of the meteorology authorities , but better late than never.
The announcement of the State of Emergency means simply that all the government institutions, civil society organizations, political parties, NGOs and people from all walks of life should mobilize all their capabilities to protect the country from any expected disasters resulted from the floods and torrential rains.
We urge all the political parties to put aside their differences and stop their attacks and counterattacks against each other in order to concentrate on how to avoid the disasters through working out plans to provide assistance to the affected areas and people.
It is high time to make all things work in rescuing the people and properties or at least minimize the loses.
The army and other regular forces, especially the civil defence forces, must be alert and form emergency committees to monitor and assess the situations according to the daily flow of reports on the floods and torrential rains, hence set the appropriate plan to deal with the situation.
Let us all work in full cooperation and coordination to bring out our country from the crises.
