The Commission of Inquiry into the missing Persons established by the Public Prosecution revealed that mass graves had been found. Evidence indicates that it is likely that they contain the bodies of missing persons who were killed and buried in a manner contrary to human dignity.
The head of the Missing Persons Committee, Professor Al-Tayyeb Al-Abbasi , announced that the committee’s teams had found a mass grave (Al-Abbasi did not locate it for security reasons), which is suspected of containing the bodies of the missing of the December revolution.
The committee said in a statement on Wednesday, that it had visited and reviewed all morgues, and investigated their departments, and that the committee would start its work in accordance with the judicial controls issued by the Attorney General, including the necessary for obtaining the DNA and knowing the cause of death and the reasons that led to the mass burial .
The statement explained that the investigation committee will do all that is necessary to complete the exhumation and re-autopsy procedures after the site has been seized and the necessary guard placed on it to prevent approaching the area until the completion of the procedures, and to direct the competent authorities to take all necessary measures.
The investigation committee confirmed the continuation of its investigations on the occurrence of the disappearance and forcible loss of persons since the events of the December – April revolution, with full transparency to give the facts to the Sudanese people, based on the principle of non-impunity, and appeals to all agencies and families of the missing to cooperate with the committee to complete its investigations.
The committee added, “After an effort that lasted for several months, the investigation committee was able to investigate the disappearance of (missing) persons, which was formed by His Excellency the Attorney General in accordance with Resolution No. (9/2019) on 11/7/2019, to investigate the disappearance and forced loss of persons, through a professional team headed by Al-Tayeb Ahmed Muhammad Al-Abbas
It is noted that the Sudanese security forces stormed a sit-in in central Khartoum, forcibly removing it, according to opposition forces. The Sudanese Central Committee of Doctors reported that the death toll had reached 108.while Initiative for Missing People announced dozens of people still missed.
After more than a year has passed since the dispersal of the sit-in, the families of the missing are still waiting to know the fate of their absent children and whether they are alive, hoping for their return or the dead, and they mourn them. Meanwhile, public opinion in Sudan awaits the results of the investigation committee to find out who has detained and disappeared those persons.
