On Saturday, 13/6/2020, the tripartite videoconference meetings of the Ministers for Irrigation from Egypt, Ethiopia and the Sudan continued when the three sides held their fourth session on the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. The discussions were based on the reconciliatory document the Sudan has prepared and dispatched to the parties following the previous session.
Today’s discussions centered on the technical aspects of filling and operation of the Renaissance Dam under condition of ordinary rainy season, a dry season, long successive dry seasons and also on the permanent operational methods.
The discussions aimed to reach a comprehensive agreement on the quantity of water which will be drained from the Renaissance Lake under all scenarios. The views of the three countries were in accord on most of the technical questions, to the exception of some details.
Extensive and animated discussions also took place on the legal aspects of the agreement the three countries are working to conclude. The meeting ended with tasking the Sudan to prepare a reconciliatory draft agreement document based on the points raised by the three sides during today’s meeting, and that the three parties would resume negotiations on Monday evening ,15/6/2020, to discuss the draft and make an assessment of the negotiations process and the subsequent steps
